Rhonda Jean - Secretary

Fifteen years ago, my husband, Brian, and I visited his family in Bay City, Michigan where I met Trevor, my sister-in-laws American Brittany. I fell in love, and promptly decided to do my due diligence by researching the breed and then initiate intensely campaigning Brian to agree. Even though our Black and White, Bailey, is not a full Brittany, she is what made us decide that Brittanys were indeed the best breed for us!
After retiring from teaching in Bakersfield, CA and moving to Idaho, I was interested in getting another Brittany and Brian wanted to begin hunting. Bailey, then 5 years old, wasn’t too interested in hunting for someone else - squirrels, turkeys and mice were more her idea of hunting! We were lucky enough to find Ann Henry and Treasure Keeper Brittanys and Jazmine joined our family. Jazz and Brian immediately began the learning process of hunting, hunt test and field trials, while I decided that running her around a show ring didn’t look that hard (HAHAHA!!). So while Trevor and Bailey are responsible for us falling in love with the breed, Jazz is responsible for the giant SPORTING DOG snowball that has taken over our retirement!
A year and a half after getting Jazz, we added Thunder - also from Ann Henry. Not only is he gorgeous and intensely birdie, he is the sweetest, cuddle-bug of the pack. This boy is definitely Brian’s boy and they are having great successes together in the field.
Last year, we then added Journey from Caliah’s Brittanys to our pack. We had met and became good friends with Mary Brown and Shellie Sytsma at field/show events in California. Brian then helped train and prepare their Lilly for field events. We fell in love with Lilly and were thrilled when they approved us for a puppy from her last litter. Journey is my beautiful show girl, and already a big running, crazy-birdie field dog. She has already finished her Show Champion and was honored as the Best Opposite in Futurity Show for 2022 in the Western Futurity. As her owner-handler, we are continuing to navigate and learn the Best of Breed ring in pursuit of her Grand, and I am also handling her in the field. Brian achieved her puppy field points with her and then trained and guided me to achieve her Junior Hunter and all her derby points.
Fifteen years ago, I never imagined a Brittany named Trevor would result in, not only our own pack of Brittanys, but two horses, pigeons, chucker and quail and traveling the country in pursuit of blue ribbons and points in field competitions and the show ring! BUT, I’m having a blast and wouldn’t want it any other way!
