Our membership has interests in a broad scope of activities in the wonderful world of the Brittany which allows this club to host events in all areas of interest to most Brittany owners.
Every year the California Brittany Club hosts a number off different events.  If you think you might like to take a closer look at this competition with ‘handler and dog’, we encourage you to stop by and visit the California Brittany Club at one of our events.

Field Trails
Winter and Summer

AKC Rules
Field Trials are competitive events to test a dog’s ability to work game. Pointing dog clubs host trials that cover various ages and levels of experience as well as accommodating both professional and amateur handlers. There is something for everybody.

In general, dogs are judged on bold and attractive style of running, stamina, ability to locate and point game, style on point and manners on birds --- puppies are not required to have bird contact.

Based on the results of the competition, points may be awarded toward an AKC title of Field Champion, Amateur Field Champion, Grand Field Champion and Grand Amateur Field Champion.

Hunt Tests
Twice in the Winter

AKC Rules
The California Brittany Club currently hosts an AKC sanctioned Hunting Test each Spring. Hunt tests are a great way for people to get involved in some of the field activities for which the Brittany is specifically bred.

Hunting tests are performance events. The dog is judged based on meeting a standard rather than against other dogs. The dog either passes or fails the test on any given day. After earning the required number of qualifying scores, the dog is then awarded a title, according to the level at which he or she entered: Junior Hunter (JH), Senior Hunter (SH) or Master Hunter (MH). Advance titles for each level can also be attained.

Specialty Show
Summer

AKC Beginner's Guide
A Specialty is a sanctioned AKC dog show (conformation event).  Dog shows are intended to evaluate breeding stock.  Each year, the California Brittany Club hosts a Specialty. It is open only to Brittanys, and offers a variety of classes, including classes for field winners. The competition at a Specialty is always keen, a joy to watch, and FUN to participate in!

Specialty shows are a wonderful place to speak with owners, breeders and enthusiasts. People who compete their dogs in conformation, obedience, field, hunting tests, and agility are usually available to talk with about Brittanys. Specialty shows are the perfect place to learn all about Brittanys, up close and personal!

A Best of Winners Jack D. Russell Memorial Challenge Trophy was established in 1978.  This perpetual trophy is a framed print with engraving showcasing the names of past winners.  Upon award of the trophy, the tradition continues. The owner of the awarded dog updates the engraving, and enjoys the trophy for about a year before returning to the Club prior to the next Specialty.

Willi Match
Summer

Previous Winners
Each year the California Brittany Club holds a fun match for club members and we especially encourage young handlers.  Rescue dogs, spayed or neutered, your neighbor’s Britt – we don’t care.  AKC papers are not required.  Since there is no shortage of Brittanys that exceed the AKC standard height, in 2004 a new class was created called “Trop Grand” which is French for “Too Tall”.  As you can see the Willi Match is designed to please as many Brittany owners as possible.  Although no AKC points are awarded, we still hire a professional judge or judge in training.  Trophies are usually recycled - dug out of club member’s garages, closets, or wherever those old mementos can be found.  New labels are attached, and in many cases a little gold paint is sprayed on to make them look good.
