What Is a Specialty Show?
A Specialty is a sanctioned AKC dog show (conformation event). Dog shows are intended to evaluate breeding stock. Each year, the California Brittany Club hosts a Specialty. It is open only to Brittanys, and offers a variety of classes, including classes for field winners. The competition at a Specialty is always keen, a joy to watch, and FUN to participate in!
Specialty shows are a wonderful place to speak with owners, breeders and enthusiasts. People who compete their dogs in conformation, obedience, field, hunting tests, and agility are usually available to talk with about Brittanys. Specialty shows are the perfect place to learn all about Brittanys, up close and personal!
A Best of Winners Jack D. Russell Memorial Challenge Trophy was established in 1978. This perpetual trophy is a framed print with engraving showcasing the names of past winners. Upon award of the trophy, the tradition continues. The owner of the awarded dog updates the engraving, and enjoys the trophy for about a year before returning to the Club prior to the next Specialty.
